Jon Lester loses no-hit bid in eighth against Braves
Cubs lefty Jon Lester made a run at history in Atlanta on Saturday night.
Cubs lefty Jon Lester made it through seven innings against the Braves in Atlanta without allowing hit. However, Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski led off the eighth with a single to right, thus ending Lester's bid. In the end, Lester worked 7 1/3 innings, allowed two hits, struck out 7 and walked one. Of Lester's 110 pitches, 63 went for strikes. He also induced 10 ground-outs on the night.
Signed to a $155-million contract this past offseason, Lester entered Saturday with a 3.59 ERA through 18 starts.
Lester previously twirled a no-hitter as a member of the Red Sox in 2008.
