Mike Matheny, John Farrell officially name All-Star Game coaching staffs
Mike Matheny has named Clint Hurdle and Fredi Gonzalez to his All-Star Game coaching staff while John Farrell has named Ron Gardenhire and Terry Francona.
Managers Mike Matheny and John Farrell have officially named their coaching staffs for the 2014 All-Star Game, which will be held in Target Field, home of the Twins, on Tuesday, July 15.
Matheny, the NL skipper by virtue of steering the Cardinals to the NL pennant last season, has named Pirates manager Clint Hurdle and Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez as his coaches for the game. As is customary, Matheny's regular Cardinals staff will also be there.
Farrell, the AL manager due to his Red Sox winning the World Series, has chosen Indians manager Terry Francona and Twins manager Ron Gardenhire to help steer the ship. Again, Farrell's Red Sox staff will also be aboard.
The Midsummer Classic this time around will mark the 85th All-Star Game in Major League Baseball. As has been the tradition since the 2002 All-Star Game ended in a tie, the winning league of the game will also grab home-field advantage in the World Series this coming October.
