Cubs: Outfielder Justin Ruggiano was placed on the disabled list with a hamstring injury and is expected to miss three to four weeks, as he heard a "pop." The Cubs also optioned reliever Blake Parker to the minors and called up relievers Zac Rosscup and Neil Ramirez (Cubs.com).
Mariners: Nick Franklin was shipped back to the minors after just 18 plate appearances.
A's: A.J. Griffin hasn't been able to throw for weeks and now he's getting a second opinion on his injured elbow. Also, Yoenis Cespedes exited Thursday's game with a left hamstring injury and will miss a few games (Susan Slusser).
Orioles: Manny Machado could actually make his long-awaited return next weekend (baltimoresun.com).
Rangers: Former closer Neftali Feliz has more arm issues and is headed to the minor-league disabled list (Anthony Andro).
Yankees: Not surprisingly, given the direction this appeared to be headed, Ivan Nova will have Tommy John surgery.
Kevin Gregg: The former closer is staying in shape and waiting for a call to take over for a club in need of late-inning help (suntimes.com).
Mets: Before the game Thursday, manager Terry Collins said Daisuke Matsuzaka could be his closer. In the actual game, Dice-K was used in a save situation and converted.
Orioles: As far as the contract extension J.J. Hardy seeks? "There's nothing to discuss," he says (baltimoresun.com).
Rangers: Former long-time lefty reliever Darren Oliver has been hired as a special assistant to general manager Jon Daniels.
Yankees: The fittingly-named Michael Pineda was suspended for 10 games due to the pine tar incident.
