Another day of baseball is in the books. Here is a recap of Thursday's news from around the league.


Padres: OF Carlos Quentin is open to waiving his no-trade clause for the right move. (Jon Heyman)

Rangers: Receiving trade interest in several players, including 3B Adrian Beltre, SS Elvis Andrus, OF Alex Rios and RHP Joakim Soria. (Jon Heyman)


Mets: Agreed to sign 10th overall pick OF Michael Conforto to a bonus in the neighborhood of the $2,970,800 slot value. The two sides are still finalizing some contract language. (Jon Heyman)

Reds: Agreed to sign 29th overall pick SS Alex Blandino to the full slot $1,788,000 bonus. (


Blue Jays: RHP R.A. Dickey (groin) will start Sunday instead of Friday. RHP Liam Hendriks will be called up to make the spot start on Friday. (

Braves: RHP Gavin Floyd suffered a fracture in his elbow during Thursday's start and will be reevaluated on Friday.

Cardinals: RHP Joe Kelly (hamstring) threw a bullpen session and made it through an "aggressive" workout. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

Giants: OF Angel Pagan (back) received an epidural and is expected to return to the lineup in the coming days. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Padres: 2B Jedd Gyorko (foot) is not progressing as hoped and had to be put back into a cast (San Diego Union-Tribune) ... placed 1B Yonder Alonso on the 15-day DL with right wrist tendinitis, the team announced.

Phillies: 3B Cody Asche (hamstring) will be activated off the disabled list on Friday. (CSN Philly)

Pirates: RHP Gerrit Cole (shoulder) threw a simulated game earlier this week and could return to the rotation sometime next week. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

Rays: Placed OF David DeJesus on the 15-day DL with a fracture in his left hand.

Red Sox: RHP Clay Buchholz (knee) will return to the team next week. The exact date as not been announced. (Providence Journal)

Twins: Placed IF Eduardo Nunez on the 15-day DL with a right hamstring strain, the team announced.

Yankees: IF Kelly Johnson is day-to-day with bruised fingers after being hit by a pitch while squaring around to bunt, the team announced.


MLB: MLB and the MLBPA announced the formation of the Puerto Rico Summer League. The program is intended to help promote baseball and develop players in the country.

Angels: Manager Mike Scioscia said he does not have a set closer at the moment. RHP Cam Bedrosian and RHP Ernesto Frieri combined to blow a save on Thursday. (

Cardinals: Will skip RHP Michael Wacha's scheduled start on Sunday to give him some extra rest. He is not injured. RHP Carlos Martinez will make the spot start in his place. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
