Ready for a full night of baseball? If so, Tuesday is your kind of day. A Dodgers-Cubs doubleheader means there's 16 games on slate. Keep it here for all the day's highlights, news, and analysis.

Tuesday's scores

Rays end Astros win streak at 12

The Astros came into Tuesday night's home tilt against the Rays having won 12 games in a row, but that win streak came to an end thanks largely to breakout ace Blake Snell, who pitched around seven walks (!) to limit the Astros to one run over seven innings. Across the way, Justin Verlander struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings while allowing only one run.

The big blow for Tampa Bay came in the eighth inning, when Wilson Ramos, with one out and the score tied at 1-1, came through with an RBI single ...

The Astros registered a pair of singles off Jose Alvarado in the ninth, but they weren't able to push the trying run across. But despair not, Astros rooters! Thanks to the Mariners' loss in the Bronx (see below), Houston maintains a two-game lead in the AL West. As well, the SportsLine Projection Model still tabs them for 104 wins on the season.

Yanks overpower M's

A big series between the Mariners and Yankees -- who coming in had combined for 93 wins on the season -- got started in the Bronx on Tuesday night. In the opener, the Yankee power bats had their way with Marco Gonzales and company. In all, the Yankees cracked four home runs on the night. Aaron Hicks hit his 10th of the season, and Miguel Andujar hit his ninth. Remember when Giancarlo Stanton was struggling? He hit his 17th, and he's now batting a productive .252/.325/.493 on the season.

Perhaps the most impressive bomb of the night came off the bat of 21-year-old Gleyber Torres ...

That's a sky-scraper right there. It's also Torres' 14th homer of the season in just 192 plate appearances. On that front ...

Some would argue that Morgan is the greatest second baseman in MLB history, so that's not bad company, to say the least.

As a team the Yankees have now hit 118 home runs to lead the majors. That's of course exactly what you'd expect given the power in that lineup.

Not to be overlooked is the gem twirled by Domingo German ...

And with that the Yankees have pushed their run differential to plus-103, and they're on pace for 111 wins.

Things get spicy between Marlins and Giants

On Monday night, Giants reliever Hunter Strickland -- prior to breaking his hand on a wall -- exchanged a few harsh words with Miami outfielders Lewis Brinson. As you're about to see, that carried over to Tuesday night in AT&T Park ...

Ejections! The Giants clearly have a bug up their hindquarters when it comes to Brinson, but perhaps this will end matters. Yes, since you were wondering, these same two teams get together again tomorrow.

Trout's ridiculous run continues

In the Angels' win over the Diamondbacks, Mike Trout reached base three times. He's now batting .335/.469/.689 on the season with 23 home runs, 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts, and more walks than strikeouts. He's been the best player in baseball thus far, and it's not a close call.

What's striking even by Trout's standards is the run he's been on during his current eight-game hit streak. Consider the numbers ...

For those counting, Trout over that span has reached base 28 times (there's an HBP mixed in) in 37 trips to the plate. Somehow the Angels are just 2-6 in those eight games. Baseball's rough, man.

Herrera makes Nats debut in win

The Nationals came back from 5-1 to beat the Orioles on Tuesday night. Trea Turner went 4 for 4 with a homer, and Anthony Rendon drove in three.

Four pitchers appeared in this one for Washington. The only one who didn't allow a run? That would be righty reliever Kelvin Herrera, whom the Nats acquired from the Royals on Monday ...

That's the first time Herrera has appeared in anything but a Kansas City uniform. That perfect frame lowered his ERA for the season to 1.01. He's going to be a big asset for the D.C. bullpen the rest of the way.

Cardinals edge Phils in another wild one

For the second straight night, the Cardinals and Phillies played a back-and-forth affair at Citizens' Bank. St. Louis put four on the board in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead, but then the Phillies tied it in the bottom of the eighth. That brings us to the top of the ninth. Matt Carpenter's up with two out and the bases empty ...

Jordan Hicks pitched a perfect ninth to give St. Louis a much-needed win.

Pirates lose game, win national anthem

The Brewers edged the Pirates in Pittsburgh in large measure to 22-year-old rookie right-hander Freddy Peralta, who struck out seven in six shutout innings. Relevant ...

Also, Jesus Aguilar, who's now slugging .580, had a double and a homer for the victors.

While the Pirates lost the game, check out lefty swingman Steven Brault absolutely nailing the national anthem prior to first pitch ...

Nicely done, Mr. Brault.

Have a night, Johan Camargo

That home run was a grand slam, which you're about to glimpse via the magic of color television ...

Because they played this one in an AL park, the Braves had the DH at their disposal. That, in turn, meant that Camargo was batting ninth. By those standards, he made a bit of history ...

The 24-year-old Camargo is now batting .240/.354/.448 on the season. He's now put up above-average numbers in 133 big-league games. Maybe the Braves don't have such a glaring need at third base after all?

Dodgers, Cubs split doubleheader

Consider it an homage to the late Ernie Banks that the Dodgers and Cubs are playing a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday in what could be a preview of this fall's NLCS.

In the first game, the Dodgers mounted a ninth-inning comeback that was mostly the result of Kyle Farmer's clutch pinch-hit double ...

Kenley Jansen made it hold up with a perfect ninth. On the other side, Kris Bryant notched a pair of doubles. Chicago starter Tyler Chatwood allowed only one run in five innings but once again struggled with his control (fives walks on the day). Speaking of which ...

Chatwood's 3.95 ERA is reasonable enough for a back-of-the-rotation guy, but he's averaging less than five innings per start in part because of his inability to find the strike zone.

In the nightcap, Rich Hill, after missing the last month because of blisters, twirled six scoreless innings against the Cubs for his strongest start of 2018. The Chicago bullpen, though, was huge. In the tenth, a Kris Bryant leadoff triple set-up the walk-off single by Albert Almora ...

These two teams will play the rubber match on Wednesday.
