MLB.com names Twins' Byron Buxton top prospect in baseball
The first of the major prospect lists is out, and it lists Twins center fielder Byron Buxton at the top.
It's late January, which means pitchers and catchers report in a mere few weeks. It also means that all the major scouting outlets are going to begin releasing their lists of top prospects (usually top 100, but Baseball Prospectus, for example, does 101).
MLB.com is the first to jump here, as the list has been released. At the top? Future Twins outfielder Byron Buxton, who was the second overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Appling County (Georgia) High School.
Last season between Class-A and High-A, Buxton hit .334/.424/.520 with 19 doubles, 18 triples, 12 homers, 77 RBI, 109 runs and 55 stolen bases while playing a stellar center field. Remember this?
Buxton is likely ticketed for Double-A this season and it's possible we'll could see him hit the majors in 2015. As for this season, well, you never know. He could force their hand. Time will tell.
