Mooo! Too bad MLB Network has no footage of this
Come listen of the time when Nolan Ryan and Willie Stargell, a couple of future Hall of Famers, battled in a cow-milking contest. ...
What a combination: Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan is making his first appearance in Angel Stadium since 1993 on Friday night ... and it's Dairy Night, too -- complete with a pre-game cow-milking contest (for those keeping score at home, Rangers pitcher Robbie Ross is taking on Angels' outfielder Kole Calhoun).
Which led someone to wonder: Did Ryan ever participate in one of those cow-milking contests?
"I beat Willie Stargell. Blew him away," Ryan said proudly. "It was embarrassing how little he had in his pail."
Ryan, 65, figures that was around 1969 or 1970. No, there were no cash prizes.
"I don't think I won anything except bragging rights, and I'm still bragging," Ryan quipped.
He also doesn't recall ever doing it again.
"It made my forearm sore for about a week," he said. "I was in and out of the Mets' rotation at that time, so it wasn't a big issue."
