More shoulder woes for Brandon McCarthy
Oakland ace Brandon McCarthy will miss his next scheduled start because of recurring shoulder problems.
A's right-hander Brandon McCarthy will not make his next scheduled start on Wednesday because of lingering shoulder discomfort.
Jane Lee of MLB.com tweets that McCarthy will return to Oakland to be examined and receive an MRI. McCarthy has missed 20 games this season due to shoulder problems, and he also endured a long run of shoulder problems from 2009-11. At this point, a return to the disabled list would hardly be surprising.
On the season, the 28-year-old McCarthy has a 2.79 ERA in 71.0 innings. In 2011, he posted a 3.32 ERA and 4.92 K/BB ratio across 25 starts.
