The Nationals have acquired left-handed reliever Marc Rzepczynski from the A's for cash considerations and minor-leaguer Max Schrock, the Nationals have announced.

Rzepczynski, 30, is mostly a LOOGY (lefty one-out guy), having appeared in 56 games this season and pitched only 36 innings. He's overall allowed opposing hitters to slash .266/.379/.343. That's an alarming rate of letting guys on base, but he's only allowed 18 of the 55 runners he's inherited to score. His ERA is 3.00, so the latter two stats aren't terrible.

Over the course of his career, Rzepczynski has held opposing left-handers to a line of .225/.295/.302 in 714 plate appearances. So he's been very useful there and that's how the Nationals figure to deploy him. With Sammy Solis hurt, the only lefty in the Washington 'pen was Oliver Perez.

As for the return, the A's get Schrock, who is a 21-year-old second baseman. He's hitting .341/.373/.453 with 11 doubles, five homers and seven steals through 54 games with Class A-Advanced Potomac since being promoted from Class A this season. He was the Nationals' 13th round pick last year out of the University of South Carolina.
