The Cardinals were able to take the field for batting practice shortly before noon local time, but storms are expected to roll in during the next hour.
According to forecasts, thunderstorms are expected until at least through 6 p.m. local time.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he wouldn't sit down starter Matt Cain in orer to try to avoid him pitching in the rain.
"I've been caught before where you try to predict what happens with the rain," Bochy said before Game 3. "A couple of years ago we started a pitcher thinking the same thing and it didn't start raining for four, five innings and then I put in my starter and it started raining. So, it came back to bite me there. … Matt Cain will start this game."
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said he wouldn't make any lineup concessions for the weather.
"We get this quite a bit, we understand that these guys do a good job of forecasting, but you never know for sure," Matheny said before Game 3. "The guys are coming in and getting prepared for the game and we'll make adjustments as they come. But right now, there's obviously some weather in the forecast. But we'll just wait and see. We know it's in the hands of the commissioner's office and see what they decide to do with it."
