PHOTO: The High Desert Mavericks really do play in a desert
Adelante, California, home of the High Desert Mavericks minor-league team, seems like a good place to get from, well, everything.
The High Desert Mavericks, California League affiliate of the Mariners, call their home Adelanto, California, which is located within the Mojave Desert. Generalizations are always ill-advised, but the following image suggests that there's not much in the way of nearby post-game entertainment options ...
Not to say that the High Desert Mavericks play in the middle of nowhere in Adelanto, but ... pic.twitter.com/Re1EVTpWQ0— Eric Stephen (@truebluela) June 24, 2014
Lest my preamble lead you to think otherwise, let me say that this is outstanding. Sure, we're accustomed to ballparks within easy walking distance of, I dunno, Jimmy O'Touchdown's Bar and Grill and Chicken Wings Vault or whatever, but this kind of "baseball in isolation" is pretty cool.
What I'm saying is that High Desert Mavericks Baseball Club is about not much more than baseball and the desert, as the name suggests, and in that sense they're mavericks. Respect, granted.
