The Phillies traded Hunter Pence to the Giants at the non-waiver trade deadline and were stuck with Pence's bobbleheads. Even without Pence, the promo went on.
Wednesday is 1990s Retro Night at Philadelphia's Citizen's Bank Park, while Tuesday is 2011 Retro Night with Hunter Pence bobblehead night. All fans at Tuesday's game against the Reds will receive a bobblehead of Pence, who was a Phillie for a grand total of one year and two days.
The Phillies sent the outfielder to the Giants at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Pence, 29, was acquired by the Astros in a trade from the Astros on July 29, 2011. In his just more than a year as a Phillie, Pence gained hero status in the team's run to an NL East title and he was honored with a bobblehead night this season. But for a team that has been to the playoffs each of the previous five seasons, nobody in the marketing department expected a trade-deadline fire sale, but yet here we are with Pence bobbleheads in Philly and Pence in Los Angeles as a Giant.
