Quote of the day: Mike Matheny on AL rules
Cardinals rookie skipper Mike Matheny, thanks to an interleague road trip to Detroit, has gotten a taste of American League rules. He was left wanting more.
The Cardinals' recent road trip to Detroit gave rookie manager Mike Matheny his first "dugout" exposure to American League rules. Matheny spent the early years of his playing career in Milwaukee, and the Brewers at the time were in the AL. But never before has he skippered under the tactically less demanding framework of the junior circuit.
The experience left him in need of ... a crossword, Angry Birds, the morning paper, something. "I feel like I'm supposed to be doing something else a lot of the time," Matheny told Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I feel like I'm missing something."
So how would you spend your downtime if you were the manager of an AL team?
