Rangers' Darvish says finger issue will not impede Sunday start

ARLINGTON, Texas -- A late and little-known development in Yu Darvish’s near-perfect game against the Astros this week will not prevent him from starting Sunday night in a showdown with the AngelsJered Weaver.

Rangers manager Ron Washington revealed Friday that Darvish developed a blister on his right ring finger by the sixth inning of Tuesday’s masterpiece against the Astros.

Darvish said Friday he has battled the issue before.

“I’ve had the problem in Japan, too,” Darvish said, speaking through an interpreter. “It wasn’t really a blister. It was skin that came off.

“I’m ready to go Sunday.”

The right-hander threw his regular bullpen session on Friday, two days before his next scheduled start.

After throwing 8 2/3 perfect innings at the Astros and striking out 14, Darvish admitted to some fatigue by game’s end. But he said he is good now.

“It’s been a good process of recovery, and I’m ready to go again,” he said.

Asked whether the finger will prevent him from throwing any specific pitches in his next outing, he smiled.

“Even if I knew, I wouldn’t be able to tell you right now,” he said.
