Rays activate Wil Myers after 12 weeks on disabled list
The Rays have activated reigning AL Rookie of the Year Wil Myers off the 60-day DL. He missed 12 weeks with a broken wrist.
The Rays have activated outfielder Wil Myers off the 60-day disabled list, the team announced. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year has been out since suffering a wrist fracture diving for a ball on May 30.
Myers, 23, was hitting .227/.313/.354 (89 OPS+) with five home runs in 53 games before getting hurt. He hit .293/.354/.478 (131 OPS+) with 13 homers in 88 games after making his debut last summer.
To make room on the roster for Myers, DH Vince Belnome was sent to Triple-A. He went 1 for 10 with three walks in four games with the team. It was the 26-year-old's big league debut.
The Rays come into Wednesday at 61-64, 11.5 games back in the AL East and seven back of a wild-card spot. They'll focus on getting Myers back on track to help make a run in 2015.
