According to Jon Heyman of, the Red Sox are talking to Stephen Drew and have interest in bringing him back for 2014. The market has been slow for the free agent shortstop, likely because teams will have to forfeit a draft pick to sign him.

Drew, 30, hit .253/.333/.443 (111 OPS+) with 13 home runs in 124 games for Boston last season. He rebounded after hitting .223/.309/.348 (81 OPS+) in 79 games for the Diamondbacks and Athletics in 2012, when he missed the first half with a broken ankle.

The Red Sox tendered Drew a qualifying offer after the season. The Cardinals filled their shortstop hole with Jhonny Peralta, and the Mets, who also need a shortstop, probably can't afford Drew after signing Curtis Granderson. There don't seem to be many fits out there.
