Report: Gaudin charged with open and gross lewdness from Jan. arrest
Giants right-hander Chad Gaudin is facing charges following a January arrest in Las Vegas.
Giants right-hander Chad Gaudin has been charged with open and gross lewdness following a Jan. 27 arrest in Las Vegas, reports Mike Blasky of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The charge is a misdemeanor.
Gaudin, 30, was intoxicated at about 4:30 a.m. at Desert Springs Hospital when he approached a 23-year-old woman on a gurney in the emergency room. He told her "she was gorgeous" before touching her face, leg and breast. A witness said he told the woman, "I will take care of you; don’t worry about them."
A paramedic told Gaudin to stay away from the woman, and he refused. Hospital security held him down until police arrived. "Gaudin was still yelling and using profanity," wrote the arresting officer in his report.
"I asked Gaudin several times how he ended up at the hospital, and each time he told me that he didn’t know," the officer wrote. "Gaudin appeared to be intoxicated. He had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, trouble standing still, obeying commands, an odor of alcoholic beverages and couldn’t repeat his house number, where he lives, the same way twice in a row."
Dominic Gentile, Gaudin's attorney, says his client was suffering from acute renal failure and experiencing symptoms including confusion and disorientation. He also says other witnesses would exonerate the pitcher.
The Giants signed Gaudin to a minor-league contract in mid-December, more than a month before the incident. He made the team out of spring training and has gone 2-1 with a 2.44 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 59 innings spread across five starts and 18 relief appearances.
Gaudin is married and owns a home in Henderson, Nev., according to the Review-Journal report.
