The Red Sox have made a three-year, $38-million offer to free-agent oufielder Shane Victorino , reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman had previously named the Red Sox as one of the leading contenders for Victorino and tabbed the market for him as commanding a three- or four-year pact.

Victorino, 32, is coming off a season in which he hit just .255/.321/.383 for the Phillies and Dodgers. For a number of reasons, there's reason to suspect that his best days are long behind him.

For the Red Sox, the addition of Victorino would come after they've already signed or come to terms with Mike Napoli, Jonny Gomes and David Ross.
