Report: Trevor Bauer to start for Diamondbacks on Thursday
Trevor Bauer, the No. 3 pick in last season's draft, will start for the Diamondbacks on Thursday, according to a report.
The third overall pick in last year's draft, Trevor Bauer, will make his big-league debut on Thursday, Jack Magruder of FoxSportsArizona.com reports.
Bauer was pulled after 50 pitches in a start for Triple-A Reno on Sunday, lining him up for the team's open rotation spot on Thursday in Atlanta. Joe Saunders was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, leaving a spot open for Arizona's rotation. Because of an off day on Monday, Ian Kennedy could have started on regular rest, but Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Kennedy would start Friday.
Bauer, 21, allowed a run on two hits in just 2 2/3 innings before being taken out of the game against Salt Lake. Bauer had five strikeouts in his outting and two walks. At Triple-A, he was 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA, striking out 56 batters in 44 2/3 innings, while walking 22. He was 7-1 with a 1.68 ERA in eight starts at Double-A Mobile.
Bauer signed quickly last season after being drafted out of UCLA and went 1-2 with a 5.96 ERA in seven minor-league starts at high-Class A and Double-A. Bauer appeared in four games in spring training, putting up a 3.60 ERA in 10 innings, striking out nine.
