Rockies pitching coach Apodaca reassigned

The Rockies' horrendous year on the mound has claimed a victim.

Pitching coach Bob Apodaca asked to be reassigned Tuesday, and general manager Dan O'Dowd agreed to have him serve instead as a special assistant for the rest of the year.

The team said that Jim Wright and Bo McLaughlin will serve as co-pitching coaches.

Rockies starting pitchers have combined for a 6.36 ERA, easily the worst in baseball. Last week, manager Jim Tracy took the drastic step of going to a four-man rotation, with each starter limited to 75 pitches. Opening day starter Jeremy Guthrie, acquired last winter in a trade with the Orioles, was demoted to the bullpen.
