Giants closer Sergio Romo will not face criminal charges resulting from his New Year's Day incident at the Las Vegas airport, according to The Associated Press. A Clark County spokesperson said a "screening panel used prosecutorial discretion to shelve the case."
Romo, 29, was detained and handcuffed after a confrontation with airport security. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and failed to provide proper ID. A court date had been set for Feb. 12, and the right-hander faced the possibility of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Romo went 14 for 15 in save chances and pitched to a 1.79 ERA in 55 1/3 innings last year. He allowed just one run and went a perfect 4 for 4 in postseason save opportunities as the Giants won their second World Series in three years. Romo filed for $4.5 million through salary arbitration last month while the team countered with $2.675 million.
