Royals, Joe Blanton agree to minor-league deal

The Royals and pitcher Joe Blanton have agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. The team later confirmed.

Blanton last pitched in the majors in 2013 for the Angels, posting a 2-14 record with a 6.04 ERA with 108 strikeouts in 132 2/3 innings. In 2014, Blanton played with the Athletics Triple-A team the Sacramento River Cats, where he made two starts.

If he makes it to the majors, Blanton will make $1 million. It also has $3 million in incentives and Blanton can request his release if not on the major league roster on April 1 and May 15, according to Heyman.
