Royals place Omar Infante on DL with back injury
The Royals will be without their starting second baseman for a while.
The Royals have placed second baseman Omar Infante on the 15-day disabled list because of a lingering back injury. Infante, who had been hoping to avoid a roster move, hasn't played since May 6. To take Infante's spot on the 25-man, the Royals have purchased the contract of infielder Pedro Ciriaco from Triple-A Omaha. The team made the announcement on Tuesday.
This season, Infante is batting .267/.326/.392 with two homers and three triples in 30 games. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 93 across parts of 13 major-league seasons.
Infante is in the first year of a four-year, $30.25-million contract that also includes a team option for 2018.
