Royals sign Jason Kendall to minor-league deal

In what can be described only as "the most Royals move ever," those Royals have signed veteran catcher Jason Kendall to a minor-league contract.

The 38-year-old Kendall, whom duty compels us to refer to as "grizzled" and "fiery," hasn't played in the majors since 2010, and even then he managed a paltry slash line of just .256/.318/.297. Truth be told, he hasn't had a productive season with the bat since 2004.

The Royals have dispatched Kendall to Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where he's expected to be in the lineup on Friday. To what end isn't clear.
