Royals sign manager Ned Yost, GM Dayton Moore to contract extensions
The defending World Series champion Royals have signed manager Ned Yost and GM Dayton Moore to contract extensions.
With the 2015 World Series title still fresh in everyone's memory, the Royals have signed manager Ned Yost and GM Dayton Moore to contract extensions, the team announced on Wednesday. Yost's contract now runs through 2018. The length of Moore's contract was undisclosed.
"We are extremely delighted that Ned will remain our manager through at least the 2018 championship season," said Moore in a statement. "It's an absolute joy and honor to work alongside him."
Yost, 60, took over as Royals manager midway through the 2010 season. The team has increased their win total under his watch every season since, going from 71 wins in 2011 to 72 in 2012 to 86 in 2013 to 89 in 2014 to 95 in 2015. Kansas City is 468-469 (.499) under Yost.
Moore has been the club's GM since midway through the 2006 season. He led a long and sometimes painful rebuild, but it has paid off handsomely. The Royals won the AL pennant in 2014 and, of course, the World Series in 2015.
"You can't find an individual with a stronger work ethic or dedication to his craft than Dayton Moore," said team president Dan Glass. "He possesses all of the qualities you look for starting with his leadership, to organizational vision and tireless dedication to the position. Dayton also possesses the ability to get everyone working toward the same common goal, which is to strive daily to make this organization better."
Royals pitchers and catchers report to spring training Thursday. Position players will follow next Monday. Moore has been able to keep the team's core largely intact, so they're expected to contend again in 2016.
