With Sunday's announcement that Ryan Vogelsong will start for the Giants in Game 3 of the NLDS on Tuesday, it appears two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum will not start for the Giants in the first round of the playoffs.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy had previously indicated that left-hander Barry Zito would start Game 4 -- or the Giants could bring back Matt Cain on short rest -- so it appears Lincecum would be relegated to the bullpen. However, he did indicate that Lincecum could still pitch Game 4.

"Really he's available today to help out in the bullpen," Bochy said in a news conference before Sunday's Game 2. "I've talked to Timmy. He's all in on this; he was great and he understands and says he wants to do whatever he can to help the ball club move on. We have him in the bullpen right now and we'll see where we're at after today and probably announce Game 4 starter either after the game tonight or in Cincinnati."

Vogelsong, 35, was 14-9 with a 3.37 ERA for the Giants this season. In two starts against the Reds, he gave up six earned runs over 13 innings in two starts. He did not have a decision in either start. Lincecum, 28, was 10-15 with a 5.18 ERA this season. He didn't face the Reds in 2012.

Bochy noted Zito was an "option" for Game 4 but would also be available in the bullpen Sunday.
