Sources: Giants, Phillies are at least discussing a trade involving Hunter Pence
Hunter Pence was told he wouldn't be traded. But sometimes plans change. The Phillies are at least listening.
The Giants are trying to swing for Hunter Pence, CBSSports.com has confirmed.
While Giants people have denied a report from Sunday that there is a deal "in place" for Pence, and that appears to be the case, the Giants are in fact talking to the Phillies about Pence.
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro acknowledged in a recent interview that sometimes plans change.
The Giants weren't believed to have much money to spend. But it appears they are considering spending some here.
The Giants also tried for Pence last year when the Phillies acquired him.
The Phillies have led Pence to believe he won't be traded, but it appears they are at least willing to listen. Pence is batting .268 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI this year and will make $13million to $15 million in arbitration next year.
