Tigers DH Victor Martinez is day-to-day after receiving eight stitches for a cut on his right thumb, reports Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports. MLB.com's Jason Beck says he cut his thumb on the bat rack.

Martinez, 34, will be replaced in the lineup by Andy Dirks on Tuesday. V-Mart missed all of last season after tearing his ACL during an offseason workout, which was part of reason why the club was motivated to sign Prince Fielder.

The switch-hitting Martinez is 3-for-21 (.143) with no extra-base hits and three walks in six games this year. He's a career .303/.370/.468 hitter in parts of 11 big league seasons.
