Tigers place Austin Jackson on DL with pulled hamstring
Detroit has placed center fielder Austin Jackson on the disabled list and replaced him on the active roster with Avisail Garcia.
The Tigers will be without a core contributor for a while, as center fielder Austin Jackson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a pulled right hamstring. The move is retroactive to Sunday, May 12. To replace Jackson on the active roster, the Tigers have recalled outfielder Avisail Garcia.
Jackson, 26, is batting .272/.333/.371 with two homers and five stolen bases this season. One of the best defensive center fielders around, Jackson is coming off a 2012 season in which he put up a 129 OPS+ and led the AL with 10 triples.
As for Garcia, 21, he posted a .692 OPS in 51 plate appearances for the Tigers last season, and he's career .285/.319/.400 hitter across parts of six minor-league seasons. Coming into 2013, Baseball America ranked Garcia as the 74th-best prospect overall.
