Tigers righty reliever Evan Reed is facing a sexual assault complaint in Detroit, according to Associated Press. Police say the accuser is being interviewed and Reed has not been charged at this time.

“The organization is aware of the very serious allegation that has been made against pitcher Evan Reed," said the team in a statement. "This allegation is concerning and we are aware of an on-going investigation. It would be inappropriate for the ballclub to comment further at this time.”

"During the infancy of this investigation, no one should formulate any conclusions that a crime has been committed," said David Gorcyca, Reed's attorney, in a statement. "Mr. Reed is currently on a seven-day West Coast road trip and has not been contacted by the Detroit Police Department. We plan on cooperating with the investigation when the time is appropriate. Until then, no further comment will be made by me or Mr. Reed."

Gina Damron and Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press report the alleged incident occurred last Monday, in the early morning hours before Opening Day. The accuser is a 45-year-old woman Reed is said to have met in a bar.

Reed, 28, has appeared in two games this season, striking out one in 2 1/3 innings. He has a 3.86 ERA in 25 2/3 career innings, all with the Tigers from 2013-14.
