Tweet of the day: Chipper's deep 'bruise'
Remember Chipper Jones' shin contusion back in May? He tweeted a picture of it Wednesday, and it's amazing. Warning: not for the weak of heart.
Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was placed on the disabled list back in May for what was termed a "left leg contusion" at the time. It came courtesy of a B.J. Upton one-hopper that struck his lower leg.
Needless to say, just calling this thing a contusion or a bruise doesn't even come close to doing it justice. Wednesday, now-retired Chipper decided to tweet a picture of what his leg looked like at the time (at least let's hope it was from back then, otherwise it's healing awfully slow).
Behold one of the most insane bruises you'll likely ever see:
Y'all remember that line drive from Bj Upton I took off the ankle this year? Be glad I left the bandage on!!! Yuck! twitter.com/RealCJ10/statu…— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) November 14, 2012
If so inclined, you can even click on the Twitter link above the picture to see a full-screen version.
Also, in scrolling through our CBSSports.com player news archives, I notice that on May 27 Scott Miller reported Chipper needed 120 cc of blood drained from his shin. Even though I'm not really sure how much that is, my question remains: That's all?
Finally, let us also remember that the Braves and Jones tried to avoid a DL stint. If you ever want to question the toughness of professional athletes, picture looking down at that thing and thinking, "Eh, I'll be OK to play in just a few days."
