Twins first baseman Joe Mauer has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a right oblique strain, the club announced Wednesday morning. Mauer suffered the injury Wednesday night against Kansas City and had to leave the game.
As a corresponding move, first baseman/outfielder Chris Colabello has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester.
Mauer, 31, is hitting .271/.342/.353 (96 OPS+) with 17 doubles, two homers and 28 RBI in 76 games this season.
In 40 games for the Twins this year, Colabello is hitting .232/.280/.377 (82 OPS+) with 10 doubles, four homers and 30 RBI.
Mauer is making $23 million per season through the 2018 campaign.
