Uniforms of the day: The Mets, as you've never seen them
The Mets on Saturday honored the Brooklyn Royal Giants. You must see the results.
The Mets are facing the Pirates on Saturday (GameTracker), and the two teams honored, respectively, the Brooklyn Royal Giants and Pittsburgh Crawfords. The Pirates looked like teams customarily do when paying uniformed tribute to long-ago Negro League clubs -- the pants were billowy, and the font was wonderfully spare.

I'm certain I'm in the minority here, but I declare these to be excellent. No, I'd not want an MLB team to trot these out every day, but as one-offs go, they're pretty interesting and ... aggressively monochromatic.
Of course, the Padres, Orioles and Indians of the 1970s think these are a little hushed and understated.
