The Angels and Nationals just wrapped up their three-game interleague set on Wednesday night. The series was of course notable for the "clash of phenoms" subplot ("maximus phenominus" in the original Latin), what with Mike Trout and Bryce Harper matching skills, wits and haircuts for the first time. In that series finale, their paths crossed quite conspicuously, as you're about to see .. 

Mike Trout: Good at baseball-related tasks and duties. 

More broadly and apropos of these two gentleman, it seems that Harper is starting to acquire the whiff of disappointment. Sure, he doesn't compare favorably to Trout, but on an age-adjusted basis pretty much no one in baseball history compares favorably to Trout. Let's also keep in mind that Harper is still just 21 -- the age at which most players are in High-A ball -- and he owns a career weighted runs created+ (wRC+) of 127. It's easy to forget how young he still is, given how long he's been a part of baseball consciousness and discussion.

Harper, like him or not, remains is a very good player and likely to get even better.
