Marlins masher Giancarlo Stanton was, once upon a time, a highly regarded wide receiver.
If you've ever seen Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton in person, you likely observed he's even more physically imposing than he appears on live color television. So it comes as no surprise that Stanton, back when he was known by the less soaring name of "Mike," was once upon a time a hotly recruited wide receiver for Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
As Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun Sentinel notes, Stanton was eyeballed heavily by Southern Cal, among others, during the 2006 season.

The Marlins, of course, would choose Stanton in the second round of the 2007 MLB draft. In terms of career choices, Stanton surely made the wiser, less painful one.
