Yadier Molina out of lineup because of 'family, personal matter'
The Cardinals will be without their catcher and leader on Wednesday night against the Brewers.
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina will not be in the lineup Wednesday night against the Brewers because of what manager Mike Matheny has termed " a family, personal matter he needs to attend to," reports Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Instead, Tony Cruz will start for the Cardinals at catcher. Timmermann notes that it's not yet known hether Molina will miss only one game or require a more extended absence.
This season, the 31-year-old Molina is batting .318/.358/.479 with 39 doubles in 120 games. That, of course, is in addition to his peerless defense behind the plate. Needless to say, he'll be missed by the Cardinals, who locked in a tight race with the Pirates and Reds for the NL Central title.
