The Cardinals and Dodgers, two NL powers, appear to be the teams most aggressively competing for the market's top pitchers, Jon Lester and David Price, people familiar with the situation suggest.

The Dodgers and Yankees are both in on Joaquin Benoit, the top reliever on the market.

San Diego hasn't determined whether they are trading Benoit after trading closer Huston Street, but there could be a decent market considering Benoit's at the top of the heap with Joakim Soria also gone in trade.

Benoit's $8.5 million salary for next year wouldn't be onerous for the Dodgers or Yankees, baseball's two best-paying teams, both with payrolls exceeding $200 million.

LA is desperate for bullpen help, but the Yankees are a bit of surprise since the open has been their biggest strength, with Dellin Betances and David Robertson at the back end. However, they are having difficulty finding rotation help, so it isn't a shock they are looking at the bullpen now.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports first mentioned the Dodgers' interest in Benoit.
