Yankees sign outfielder Chris Young to minor-league deal

The Yankees signed free-agent outfielder Chris Young to a minor-league deal, sources say.

Young struggled across town with the Mets this year after signing a one-year, $7.25-million deal with them, and the Mets wound up releasing Young.

Young is considered a very good outfielder with some power, but he hit just .205 with eight homers for the Mets and the signing became the target of a lot of criticism.

The Yankees have a lot of outfielders, but it's possible Young could be used to spell 40-year-old icon Ichiro Suzuki on occasion, if he gets a callup.
