Mark Lowe: Looking to pitch in 2019
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe is looking to make a comeback in 2019, Jerry Crasnick of reports.

Lowe is currently working out in Portland, Oregon. The 35-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since 2016, when he posted a 7.11 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 49.1 innings for the Tigers, so he'll likely be forced to settle for a minor-league deal, with an invitation to spring training if he's lucky.

Mark Lowe: Cut loose by Dodgers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe was released by the Dodgers on Monday, Jerry Crasnick of reports.

Lowe was a long shot to break camp with the Dodgers after spending all of the 2017 season in the minors and struggling to a 6.66 ERA and 1.73 WHIP between Triple-A Tacoma (Mariners) and Triple-A Charlotte (White Sox). The 34-year-old is insistent on pitching in 2018, but he'll likely need to settle for a minor-league deal to do so.

Dodgers' Mark Lowe: Latches on with Dodgers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers which includes an invitation to spring training, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Lowe spent all of last season in the minors after struggling to a brutal 7.11 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 49.1 innings with the Tigers in 2016. Things didn't get much better for him in 2017, as he split time between Triple-A Tacoma (Mariners) and Triple-A Charlotte (White Sox) and finished the season with a 6.66 ERA and 1.73 WHIP across 48.2 innings. It appears his days as an effective major-leaguer may be behind him.

White Sox's Mark Lowe: Traded to White Sox
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe was traded by the Mariners to the White Sox, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Lowe is a veteran arm with extensive experience at Triple-A and in the majors. With the White Sox, he'll pitch for Triple-A Charlotte and could reach Chicago's bullpen before the end of the season.

Mariners' Mark Lowe: Set to sign with Mariners
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe is expected to sign a contract with the Mariners on Thursday, Jerry Crasnick of reports.

The 33-year-old posted a 7.11 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 2016 and struggled again this spring, resulting in the Tigers releasing him. Lowe spent time with Seattle from 2006-10 and again in 2015, accumulating a combined 3.45 ERA across 211.1 innings. He'll once again look to revive his career with the Mariners, as he did so in 2015 after having only pitched 18.2 innings in 2013-14 combined.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Released by Tigers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe was released by the Tigers on Sunday, Evan Woodbery of reports.

Lowe signed a two-year deal with the Tigers after a strong 2015, but things never worked out in Detroit. He posted a 7.11 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 2016 and didn't do enough this spring to make the bullpen. Lowe was formally placed on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release, so the 33-year-old could latch on somewhere else to begin the season.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Looks for bounce-back 2017
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

After a disastrous 2016 campaign, the Tigers are hoping a mechanic adjustment and the time off help Lowe get back on track, Jason Beck of reports.

Lowe signed a two-year deal with Detroit after posting a 1.96 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 55 innings in 2015. But he saw his ERA balloon to 7.11 and his WHIP jump to 1.58 in his first season with the Tigers. Lowe's fastball and slider both lost velocity, and he acknowledged that he tinkered with his approach throughout the season without much success. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Lowe told him he "found something mechanically" over the offseason, making Ausmus optimistic that Lowe can rebound. His career stats outside of 2015, however, make that year look like an outlier. Expect better results this year, but don't expect a sub-2.00 ERA again.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Ugly numbers in 2016
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe has a 7.11 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 49.1 innings of relief this season.

Bullpen arms swing hot to cold from season to season, but Lowe's 2016 is about as cold as they come. His 2015 excellence is looking more and more like an anomaly, so there's little reason for fantasy owners to look his way unless or until he regains that form.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Improving after early season struggles
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe has allowed seven earned runs over his last 15.1 innings pitched.

Although Lowe has been far from flawless, his recent performance represents a drastic improvement from May and June, when he allowed 24 runs over a combined 15.1 frames. His ERA now sits at 7.78 on the year to go with a 1.63 WHIP.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: June even worse than May
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe's struggles continued through June and his ERA now stands at 10.44. His WHIP sits at 1.88.

Lowe's game has fallen apart. He has allowed 16 earned runs in his last 7.2 innings and has given up three home runs in his last three innings of work.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Rough May inflates numbers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe is now 1-3 with a 7.79 ERA after giving up a two run walk-off home run in Tuesday's loss to the Angels.

May was not kind to Lowe, as he gave up 12 runs (all earned) and five home runs in just 8.2 innings. Coming off a fantastic season where he had a 1.96 ERA and 1.05 WHIP, his tremendous struggles are unsettling, especially to the Tigers, who only have one reliever with an ERA below 3.20 among pitchers with more than 10 innings to their name, that being Buck Farmer. Lowe's average fastball velocity is also troublesome. At 92.2 miles per hour, it's 3.3 miles per hour slower than it was in 2015.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Gives up five runs in Sunday's loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe was lit up for five runs on three hits and a walk over 0.2 innings in Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Rangers.

Lowe entered with the game tied 2-2, but was tagged with the loss after serving up a grand slam to Bobby Wilson and then giving up a solo shot to Delino DeShields. The poor outing torpedoed Lowe's ERA for the season, but he still looks to be one of the Tigers' most trusted setup men in front of closer Francisco Rodriguez.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Delivering value in leagues that count holds
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe has five holds in seven appearances (6.1 innings) this season.

Lowe's WHIP is a tidy 1.11 and he's held opposing batters to a .261 batting average. He also has five strikeouts. Lowe is not currently in line to vulture any saves, but he's clearly a key contributor in those formats where holds are rewarded.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Set to be K-Rod's set-up man
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Justin Wilson and Lowe will be called up on to hold games through the seventh and eighth innings.

Lowe should deliver you plenty of holds this season while supporting a starting group led by Jordan Zimmerman and Justin Verlander. He'll hand the ball to Francisco Rodriguez to close things out and may even get some saves when K-Rod needs some rest. Target him as a high-upside reliever.

Tigers' Mark Lowe: Signs two-year deal with Tigers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lowe agreed to a two-year contract with the Tigers on Monday, The Detroit News reports.

Lowe will head to Detroit after splitting last season with the Mariners and Blue Jays. He posted a 1.96 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 61:12 K:BB ratio last season in 55 total innings, so he figures to be one of the Tigers' top relievers. However, he has just six career saves to his name and tallied just one last year, so expect him to work in a setup role in front of new closer Francisco Rodriguez.

Blue Jays RP Blue Mark Lowe takes loss in Tuesday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blue Jays pitcher Mark Lowe took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees, surrendering two hits and three runs (two earned) in 1/3 innings. Lowe gave up a three-run homer to Greg Bird that broke a 3-3 tie, only the third round-tripper the reliever has surrendered in 53 1/3 innings this season.

The runs were also the first yielded by the veteran since an Aug. 26 outing against the Royals. Despite the forgettable outcome on Tuesday, Lowe has pitched impressively in relief for the Blue Jays this season, posting a 1.86 ERA, securing 15 holds and amassing an impressive 28.2 percent strikeout rate.

by Marty Gitlin |

Short reliever Mark Lowe arrived in Toronto via trade having allowed just four earned runs all season. He left the mound after his Blue Jays debut having surrendered three and was soon saddled with the defeat.

Lowe came on with a 5-4 lead and yielded a home run to Ben Zobrist, double to Lorenzo Cain, single to Eric Hosmer, single to Kendrys Morales and sacrifice fly to Alex Rios.

Two of the runs he surrendered with Seattle were scored on July 20. He has allowed four over his last nine innings pitched.

Mariners pitcher Mark Lowe bolstering bullpen
by Brandon Wise |

Mariners relief pitcher Mark Lowe has brought strong depth and a veteran presence to a young bullpen, according to

Lowe, who signed a minor-league deal with Seattle in December, was called up three weeks ago to the Mariners, posting a 1.29 ERA in eight appearances.

"Mark has pitched extremely well," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "I've been very pleased. Heck, his velocity yesterday was 97, with some real good sliders. It's nice having a veteran arm down there who is versatile and can do a lot of different things. He's done great for us.

"He was behind the eight-ball in spring training because of the number of arms we had going into spring. But obviously he did well for himself. He's been getting guys out. He's done a nice job."
