Paul Janish: Released by Orioles
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish was granted his release by the Orioles on Monday, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Janish, who originally planned to retire once the 2017 season was finished, has opted to end his career a bit earlier than expected. Now that his professional career has come to a close, Janish will begin coaching at Rice University.

Orioles' Paul Janish: To retire at season's end
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish announced that he will retire after the 2017 season to take a coaching job at Rice University, David Hall of The Virginian-Pilot reports.

A fifth-round draft pick of the Reds in 2004, Janish has enjoyed a 14-year professional career. He's known more for his glove than his bat, as evidenced by the impressive .983 fielding percentage Janish posted over 473 major-league games. The 34-year-old shortstop will hang 'em up to rejoin Rice, where he was a captain on the Owls' 2003 national championship team.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Sent outright to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.

The veteran infielder was designated for assignment on Saturday, but he failed to attract any interest while he was exposed to waivers. Janish will continue on with the Orioles organization as an infield depth piece, although his major-league experience could help him head back up to the big leagues later in the season if injuries plague the squad in Baltimore.

Orioles' Paul Janish: DFA'd by Orioles
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish was designated for assignment Saturday.

Janish certainly hasn't impressed since being being brought up on June 19, recording just four hits in 41 at-bats while serving mainly as a reserve infielder. The Orioles hope to have the 34-year-old sent down to the minors as organizational depth, according to Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun, though he may opt to become a free agent after spending the last three years with the club.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Settling back into reserve role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rays.

Janish had made four consecutive starts at shortstop earlier in the week, but after failing to impress, it seems Ruben Tejada has reemerged as manager Buck Showalter's top option at the position. Neither infielder brings much fantasy upside to the table, but Tejada makes for the more appealing option for the time being while he draws a fourth straight start Sunday.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Becoming preferred shortstop option
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish will start at shortstop and bat ninth Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

It will be the fourth start in a row for Janish, who seems to have leapfrogged Ruben Tejada on the depth chart to become the Orioles' preferred option at shortstop while J.J. Hardy (wrist) is out. Janish brings a capable glove to the middle infield, but his career .214/.282/.286 batting line may make it hard to justify rostering him even in AL-only formats.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Contract selected from Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish had his contract purchased from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

With J.J. Hardy expected to miss an extended period of time while recovering from a fractured wrist, Janish was added to the Orioles to provide some infield depth. He failed to collect a hit (0-for-5) in three games with the big club earlier in the year before being designated for assignment.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Outrighted to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

After the Orioles designated him for assignment earlier this week, Janish went unclaimed off waivers and will stick around in the organization. He could resurface with the big club if the Orioles should have a need for a utility infielder down the road.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Tuesday, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

His tenure on the roster lasted just over two weeks, and Janish logged all of five plate appearances during that span. The O's acquired an upgrade in Ruben Tejada from the Yankees over the weekend -- they are looking to buy more time until Ryan Flaherty (shoulder) slots back in as their utility infielder. Janish may be done in the major leagues.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Joins Orioles on Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish had his contract selected by the Orioles and is playing shortstop and batting ninth during Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

With infielder Ryan Flaherty being placed on the disabled list Sunday, the Orioles have decided to bring Janish aboard. The 34-year-old was slashing .255/.364/.378 over 118 plate appearances with Triple-A Norfolk this season. Though he's drawn the start Sunday, Janish will likely only provide infield depth for the Orioles in Flaherty's absence moving forward.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Reassigned to minor-league camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish was reassigned to minor-league camp on Tuesday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.

He was predictably beaten out by Ryan Flaherty for the utility infield role, and will serve as organizational depth at Triple-A to start the season.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Inks deal with Orioles
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish signed a minor league contract with the Orioles on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

The infielder returns to Baltimore after playing 14 games with the club in each of the past two seasons. Janish hit just .194 in 35 major league plate appearances and slashed .248/.333/.280 over 76 games with Triple-A Norfolk last season. The veteran will report to spring training immediately, but he's a long shot to make the roster and seems destined to be organizational depth.

Paul Janish: Opts to become free agent
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish elected to become a free agent Thursday, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.

It had been reported that Janish would remain with the Orioles organization, but he seems to have changed his mind and has elected to become a free agent. Janish spent most of the year at Triple-A Norfolk, where he hit an uninspiring .248/.333/.280 over 76 games. At 34 years old and with a career MLB line of .216/.284/.289, Janish doesn't offer much upside, so he'll likely provide infield depth if a club chooses to sign him.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Outrighted to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, the Baltimore Sun's Eduardo Encina reports.

He could have declined the assignment and elected free agency, but Janish decided to remain in the organization. Look for him to offer organizational infield depth in 2017.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Designated for assignment Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish was designated for assignment Friday.

The Orioles needed room on the 40-man roster after claiming Jed Bradley off waivers, and Janish ended up being the odd man out. The utility infielder split time between Triple-A and the majors in 2016, although he didn't find much success at either level. He'll likely act as organizational depth if he sticks with Baltimore, but there's a decent chance that he could land with a big league club looking for infield depth.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Contract selected by Orioles
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish had his contract selected by the Orioles on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Despite his struggles at the plate this season, Janish will get another call to the big leagues in order to provide some depth on the infield. The 33-year-old's playing time will likely be limited with a solid infield already in place.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Expected to join ML roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish is expected to have his contract selected to the major league roster Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Janish has been in the minors since June, but with Steve Pearce now sidelined indefinitely and expanded rosters since the start of September, the Orioles could use an extra bat on the bench. The 33-year-old struggled to get much going at the plate in the big leagues earlier this year, slashing just .194/.286/.226 with only one extra-base hit in 14 games.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Accepts assignment to Triple-A Norfolk
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.

The veteran infielder was outrighted to Triple-A on Tuesday, and he has since chosen to remain with the organization rather than opt out and test the waters as a free agent. He is no longer on the 40-man roster, but he is expected to join Triple-A Norfolk by the end of the weekend. Janish's glove could warrant him a recall later in the season, but it'd likely take a rash of injuries to the left side of Baltimore's infield for that to happen before September.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Outrighted to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish has been outrighted to Triple-A as the Orioles recalled right-hander Oliver Drake from Norfolk.

Janish has cleared waivers and has three days to decide if he will play for Triple-A Norfolk. The 33-year-old has not made an impact with his limited playing time, hitting a measly .194 with only one extra-base-hit in 31 at-bats.

Orioles' Paul Janish: Will start Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Janish is in the lineup and batting ninth for Monday's game against the Rangers, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Janish is hitting just .185/.290/.222 with three runs this year, leaving his fantasy value close to nil.
