Jesus Guzman: Released by Cubs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Guzman was released by the Cubs on Wednesday, the Cubs' official site reports.

The 31-year-old never had a realistic chance at making the Cubs' roster, so this move doesn't come as too much of a surprise. Guzman will look to sign with a new team in the coming weeks.

Guzman, making his 2016 spring debut, went 2-for-2 in a split-squad loss to the Dodgers on Saturday. His second hit was a ninth-inning, two-run homer.

Guzman, who spent 2015 in Japan, is not expected to make the team. Still, the 1.000 batting average and 2.500 slugging percentage are pretty shiny.

Cubs' Jesus Guzman: Will join Cubs at spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Guzman received an invitation to big league spring training Friday.

One of the older non-roster invitees to Cubs spring training, Guzman also has a fair amount of MLB experience under his belt, but hasn't played ball since 2014. The veteran will look to make his mark during spring training, but it would likely take a lot for him to make the club out of spring training.

Cubs' Jesus Guzman: Minor league deal with Cubs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Guzman signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.

Unable to find an offer from an MLB organization that suited him, Guzman went to play in Japan in 2015. Now 31, Guzman is a .247/.316/.390 career hitter at the major league level (403 games), and posted a .520 OPS with the Astros in 2014. However, he does own a .263/.337/.410 line against left-handed pitching at the highest level.
