VandenHurk allowed three hits and two walks over four scoreless innings in a win over Team Korea on Tuesday.
He didn't strike out a batter, but VandenHurk still managed to blank Team Korea over four frames before turning it over to the bullpen. Signed by the Marlins as an amateur free agent in 2002, VandenHurk broke into the majors in 2007 but mostly struggled in parts of six seasons before disappearing from affiliated baseball after the 2012 season.
VandenHurk will start for the Netherlands in Thursday's WBC game against South Korea, MLB.com reports.
VandenHurk last pitched in MLB in 2012. He then pitched in South Korea in 2014 and in Japan the past two seasons; last year, he went 7-3 with a 3.84 ERA and 92:15 K:BB in 82 innings for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.
