Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Removed from 40-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Red Sox outrighted Kendrick from the 40-man roster Thursday, though he remains with Triple-A Pawtucket, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.

The right-hander will continue serving as organizational depth, but when the Red Sox need Kendrick next, they'll have to make a roster move to clear a space for him.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Sent back to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket after Wednesday's loss to the Brewers, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

While it appeared Kendrick was in line to replace injured Steven Wright (knee) in the rotation for the foreseeable future, two rough outings have earned him a ticket back to the minors. The 32-year-old allowed 12 runs through two starts (8.2 innings) with a 3:3 K:BB before being sent back to Pawtucket. He'll be replaced by Robbie Ross on the roster, while the Red Sox will wait to announce a rotation replacement as they don't need a fifth starter until May 20.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: In rotation for foreseeable future
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick will remain in Boston' starting rotation for the foreseeable future, Julian Benbow of The Boston Globe reports.

With Steven Wright (knee) set to have surgery and miss the rest of the season, Kendrick will take Wright's turn in the rotation, presumably until David Price (elbow) is ready to return. Kendrick's first spin Thursday didn't go so well. The Orioles flirted with scoring in the early innings before busting out in a fourth inning that included another slow trot around the bags by Manny Machado after a mammoth three-run home run. Kendrick finished with six runs allowed on eight hits and two walks while striking out one. With a day off coming Monday, the Red Sox could delay Kendrick's next start until May 13.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Officially added to roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick had his contract purchased from Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.

As expected, the veteran hurler will head up to the big leagues to toe the rubber Thursday in place of injured knuckleballer Steven Wright (knee). It seems like Kendrick will stick with the Red Sox rotation for a few more starts after Thursday's outing, but more should become clear as Wright progresses in his injury rehab. To make room on the roster, Marco Hernandez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day DL and Tyler Thornburg (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day DL.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Likely in rotation for a while
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick's impending addition to the roster suggests he'll be around for a while, Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com reports. He is scheduled to start in place of the injured Steven Wright (knee) on Thursday.

Since Kendrick is on a minor-league deal, he cannot be sent back to Triple-A Pawtucket once added to the major-league roster without being designated for assignment and subjected to the waiver process. He would likely get claimed by another team. The Red Sox don't want to waste Kendrick for a one-start fill-in assignment -- the organization has other options already on the 40-man roster if it felt Wright would miss a single start -- so expect multiple starts for Kendrick.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Tabbed as Thursday's starter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick will be added to the 40-man roster and start Thursday's game against the Orioles, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.

With Thursday's scheduled starter Steven Wright being placed on the disabled list Monday with a sprained left knee, the Red Sox will call upon Kendrick to make his first big-league appearance since 2015 with the Colorado Rockies. The 32-year-old has posted a 6.00 ERA and 20:5 K:BB ratio over 27 innings with Triple-A Pawtucket this season, but will get to face a Blue Jays team that has hit just .228 against right-handed pitching early in the season.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Rocked in Triple-A debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings for Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

Kendrick was hit hard by Syracuse and stayed out to take the beating because the PawSox extended their bullpen in a doubleheader Sunday. It's unlikely the Red Sox have altered their opinion of Kendrick, who excelled in spring training with a 2.18 ERA over 33 innings. He still sits atop the pile of minor-league depth starters.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Could start for Red Sox early on
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick is slated for an extended spring training start at Fort Myers on Tuesday, April 4, which would put him position to work Sunday, April 9, for either the Red Sox or Triple-A Pawtucket, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

The right-hander is waiting in the wings in case Drew Pomeranz (forearm) doesn't prove healthy enough for activation from the disabled list for that Sunday assignment. Kendrick, either way, looks like Boston's top option as a backup starter in case another need surfaces, though the veteran can opt out of his minors deal on June 15.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Reassigned to minor league camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick was reassigned to minor league camp Tuesday, the Boston Herald's Jason Mastrodonato reports.

With Drew Pomeranz looking like he will be ready to go for the start of the season, Kendrick has officially lost out on his bid for a rotation spot. However, he was the most impressive of the starters who will open the year at Triple-A, so he could be up with the big league team if there is a need for an emergency starter. He has an opt out on June 15, so he will serve as organizational depth for Boston until at least that date.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Another strong outing Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick allowed two runs on eight hits with no walks and struck out six over six innings in Saturday's game against Philadelphia.

Kendrick had a track on a possible spot in Boston's first rotation of the regular season, but Drew Pomeranz's healthy outing Friday appears to put that spot out of Kendrick's reach. However, the right-hander's 2.17 spring ERA makes him the next viable option should any Boston starter miss time early in the season. Kendrick doesn't have an opt out until June 15, so he'll be kicking around at Triple-A Pawtucket while awaiting a promotion.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Throws five innings Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings Monday.

Kendrick has been the surprise of training camp and is in position to open the season as part of Boston's rotation if Drew Pomeranz (triceps) is not ready to go when camp breaks. Pomeranz is expected to pitch Friday, but he may not have enough time to build up his pitch count. A non-roster invitee, Kendrick will be around even if he has to begin the season in the minors. He doesn't have an opportunity to opt out of his contract until June 15.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Starting Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick will start Monday's Grapefruit League game against Baltimore, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

Kendrick's 1.50 ERA in 18 spring innings (16 strikeouts) has grabbed some headlines in light of recent injuries to David Price (elbow) and Drew Pomeranz (triceps). His start Monday is thus being viewed as an audition for an Opening Day rotation spot. If the Red Sox are thinking about having both Price and Pomeranz begin April on the disabled list, Kendrick is the clear option for an available spot in the rotation. He's easily outpitched the other candidates (Henry Owens, Brian Johnson, Roenis Elias), so presumably only an injury would keep him from being the first choice.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Throws another five scoreless frames
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick allowed three hits without a walk while striking out six over five scoreless innings in Wednesday's game against Tampa Bay.

Kendrick continues to impress for the Red Sox, posting a 1.50 ERA over 18 innings in five spring outings (four starts). From seemingly out of nowhere, he's moved to the top of the heap for when Boston requires a depth starter this year.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Blanks O's over four innings
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick worked around four hits and two walks to pitch four scoreless innings against Baltimore on Friday.

While he didn't face the Orioles' most elite lineup, Kendrick pitched to his strengths, inducing seven groundball outs compared to one flyout. That's been the key to his two strong starts with Boston this spring, according to manager John Farrell, who said in recent seasons Kendrick had a tendency to fall in love with his four-seamer. The 32-year-old right-hander, who didn't pitch in the majors in 2016, has emerged as the team's leading depth starter. In four spring appearances, Kendrick has allowed three earned runs on nine hits and three walks over 13 innings.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Separating from pack of depth SP
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick tossed four scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one in Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Kendrick threw his tumbling two-seamer to induce eight groundouts and needed just 46 pitches thanks to a steady diet of strikes. The Braves didn't bring their best to the game, so we're not reading too much into the results, but in terms of where Kendrick fits among Boston's other depth starters, this performance moved him to the top of the pack.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Filling in for Price Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick will start Sunday in place of the injured David Price (strained elbow), Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.

The non-rostered Kendrick is expected to start the season at Triple-A Pawtucket but could work his way up to the majors should the Red Sox require a fill-in starter.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Joins Red Sox as NRI
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday that includes an invite to spring training, ESPN.com reports.

Kendrick was knocked around to the tune of a 6.32 ERA in 27 starts for the Rockies in 2015 and then failed to crack the Angels' roster at any point last year (4.72 ERA, 1.29 WHIP at Triple-A Salt Lake). Chances are, Kendrick will once again serve as depth in the minors. Perhaps he will get a look with the big club eventually, but it would probably be as a long reliever and only if the bullpen is severely taxed and the Red Sox need someone to eat innings.

Angels' Kyle Kendrick: Signs minor-league deal with Angels
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick finalized a minor-league contract with the Angels on Sunday, Taylor Ward of InsideTheHalos.com reports.

Kendrick and his agent had been working on a deal with the Angels for a little over three weeks, and it looks as though the 31-year-old has agreed to pay his dues in the minors before potentially getting added to the 40-man roster. While Kendrick has been a reliable back-end starter for much of his career, he was a disaster with the Rockies last season, serving up 33 homers en route to an ugly 6.32 ERA over 142.1 innings.

Kyle Kendrick: Finalizing deal with Angels
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick is finalizing a deal with the Angels, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

The veteran starter was released by the Braves earlier in the month, but he is on the verge of already finding a new home. The Angels are a bit thin at the starting pitcher position with both CJ Wilson and Tyler Skaggs expected to miss the start of the season, so the deal makes some sense in that respect. That being said, Kendrick struggled significantly this spring and hasn't pitched all that well in recent years, so he'll likely act as organizational depth while starting with the Triple-A club.

Kyle Kendrick: Released by Braves after rough spring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick was released by the Braves on Saturday.

Kendrick gave no reason to think he is still a viable MLB pitcher during spring training, allowing nine earned runs in his two starts (3.2 innings). The 31-year-old hasn't had a regular-season ERA below 4.00 since 2012 and appears to be at the end of his MLB career. He'll search for another team in free agency, but the fact that the rebuilding Braves have no need for him to eat innings is telling.
