Nick Hagadone: Released by Seattle
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hagadone was released by the Mariners on Tuesday.

It seems that Hagadone, who was pitching in relief for Triple-A Tacoma, was let go to pursue other opportunities rather than as a result of poor performance. He hadn't allowed a run in his last 9.2 innings with Tacoma and is carrying a 3.51 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 33.1 frames on the season. Hagadone, who last appeared in the majors in 2015 with the Indians, will likely attempt to land another minor-league deal with an organization that offers a clearer path back to the big leagues.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Indians RP Nick Hagadone will get second opinion on elbow
by Ruben Palacios | CBS Sports Staff

The Indians are fearing the worst when it comes to relief pitcher Nick Hagadone and the injury he sustained to his left elbow during a Class A rehab outing on Wednesday, per

Hagadone had the elbow examined after suffering the injury and is in the process of getting a second opinion.

"He threw a pitch and felt it. He was examined and it's not good," manager Terry Francona said. "We'll have more when we have more, but he looks like he hurt it pretty good."

Hagadone is no stranger to elbow injuries, he required reconstructive Tommy John surgery in 2008.

"Let's let him go get his second opinion, which is important," Francona said. "And then we'll have more. But, this isn't something that's probably a week with no throwing. I think he hurt himself."

Indians' Nick Hagadone rewards Francona's confidence Saturday
by R.J. White |

Indians pitcher Nick Hagadone was called upon with the bases loaded in the seventh inning of a one-run game and delivered an inning-ending strikeout in his team's 4-3 win over the Mariners on Saturday.

"That's huge for me," Hagadone said of manager Terry Francona continuing to use him in key sutiations, per "Knowing that Tito has the confidence to put me out there in those situations, and that he doesn't lose that confidence if I have a couple bad outings, it's huge for my confidence. It's just great to play for a manager like that."

Hagadone, who finished the day with an inning of work and just one hit and no runs allowed, threw a cutter on his first pitch to Kyle Seager with the bases loaded.

"It's a new pitch," Hagadone said. "It just helps to keep them off-balance, because a lot of hitters, especially with me, are sitting on fastballs only. So, if I can just kind of throw something else up there in the strike zone, it kind of helps me not allow them to just sit on that."

Seager fouled off a fastball on the next pitch before swinging and missing at a curveball out of the zone to end the potential rally.

"Hags [made] some really big pitches in a key spot," Francona said. "I'm not really sure there wasn't a key spot, though, when you're in a game like that. They were putting pressure on us all night. We did some really good things to manage to hang on there."

Nick Hagadone takes loss in relief for Indians
by Shawn Krest |

Indians reliever Nick Hagadone suffered his first loss since 2013, Tuesday against Texas.

Hagadone entered in the sixth and stranded the go-ahead run at third base. After retiring the first five batters he faced, Hagadone allowed the game-winning home run to Mitch Moreland with one out in the eighth.

"He pitched good. He got like five outs on nine pitches," manager Terry Francona said. "But he fell behind Moreland, and actually threw a ball, but because he was behind in the count Moreland cheated a little bit and hit it good. That's a shame because I thought he pitched really good."

It was the only baserunner he allowed in 1 2/3 innings.

Indians pitcher Nick Hagadone throws two scoreless Saturday
by Brandon Wise |

Indians pitcher Nick Hagadone went two scoreless innings in Cleveland's 4-2 win over the Twins Saturday. Manager Terry Francona loves what he's seen from Hagadone so far, reports

"Hags threw the ball so well," Francona said. "He has the ability to do this. If you let an outing or two [affect your thinking], if you kind of put a guy in the penalty box, you're not going to get to see what he can do. That doesn't help anybody."

Hagadone has now thrown 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and just two walks with a 3.38 ERA.

"He did an outstanding job," closer Cody Allen said. "Hags is a big part of this team. He's a guy that I know Tito likes to lean on, because he's a left-hander that can get righties and lefties out. He's got great stuff. He did a great job for us last year and we're looking for him to do the same thing this year."
