Gose has been sidelined since early July with a triceps injury, but he apparently was dealing with some elbow damage as well, and the decision was made to send him under the knife. Gose will need 12-to-18 months to recover from the procedure, so he has an outside shot to return to action late in the 2023 season. However, it's more likely that he does not take the mound again until sometime in 2024.

Gose got the last two outs in the ninth inning to keep the game tied, and he added one more out in the 10th before Enyel De Los Santos closed out the game. A once-promising outfield prospect while coming up through the Blue Jays' system, Gose slashed .240/.309/.348 across 1,252 plate appearances with Toronto and Detroit from the 2012 through 2016 seasons before converting to pitching. The transition initially proved rough, but Gose began generating better results in 2019 and was awarded an assignment to Triple-A coming out of spring training. The 31-year-old lefty has been especially effective since rejoining Columbus in mid-August following a stint at the Tokyo Olympics with Team USA; over his final 12 appearances with the affiliate, Gose gave up one run while striking out 22 over 14 innings. Blessed with a fastball that occasionally touches the triple digits, Gose will get a chance to make a case for a spot in Cleveland's 2022 bullpen during the final two weeks of the current season.
