  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Invited to big-league camp

Gose (elbow) was invited to major-league spring training. Gose will have an opportunity to show what he can do against big-league hitters to begin camp. He missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, so this will be a good test for the southpaw, who made 22 appearances for the Guardians in 2022 (4.71 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across 21.0 innings).

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Re-signs with Cleveland

Gose (elbow) agreed to a two-year, minor-league contract with the Guardians on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Gose was let go by the Guardians in mid-November but is now back with the team on a minor-league pact. He underwent Tommy John surgery in September and is set to miss the entirety of the 2023 campaign, hence the two-year contract.

  • Anthony Gose: Parts ways with Cleveland

The Guardians declined to tender Gose (elbow) a contract for 2023, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. A converted outfielder, Gose showed real promise as a relief pitcher before suffering a triceps injury that ultimately led to Tommy John surgery in September. He will miss all of next season, though another team might be intrigued enough to bring Gose in right away on a two-year deal.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Designated for assignment

Gose (elbow) was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Tuesday. The left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in September and is poised to miss the entire 2023 campaign, so Cleveland won't carry him on the 40-man roster through the offseason. Gose had a 4.71 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB over 21 innings prior to landing on the injured list.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Gose (triceps) underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports. Gose has been sidelined since early July with a triceps injury, but he apparently was dealing with some elbow damage as well, and the decision was made to send him under the knife. Gose will need 12-to-18 months to recover from the procedure, so he has an outside shot to return to action late in the 2023 season. However, it's more likely that he does not take the mound again until sometime in 2024.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Goes to 60-day injured list

Gose (triceps) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. It's unclear where Gose stands in his recovery from a triceps injury, but he is apparently not close to getting back on the mound. He will be eligible to return to action Sept. 1.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Lands on injured list

Gose was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a strained left triceps. The converted outfielder has been unable to build on the success he enjoyed out of the bullpen last season, and now he will be sidelined at least through the All-Star break with this injury. Walks and homers have both been a problem. While Gose has vultured three wins, he doesn't have a single hold on the campaign, and that speaks to manager Terry Francona's lack of trust in the lefty.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Picks up third win

Gose (3-0) struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the win Friday over the Dodgers. Gose got the last two outs in the ninth inning to keep the game tied, and he added one more out in the 10th before Enyel De Los Santos closed out the game. This was just the fourth appearance in June for Gose, but he's allowed only one run, two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in four innings. Less frequent usage appears to have benefited the southpaw, who now has a 4.11 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB across 15.1 innings. He'll be in the mix for mid-to-high-leverage work as part of the bridge to closer Emmanuel Clase.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Win in relief

Gose (2-0) earned the win Friday against the Athletics, allowing zero runs while striking out two over one inning in relief. Gose entered in the top of the ninth with Cleveland down by two, but earned the win after the Guardians picked up three runs to end the game. Although Gose looked good on Friday, Emmanuel Clase has a clear hold on the closer role in Cleveland.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Yields run Tuesday

Gose allowed a run on a hit and a walk with three strikeouts in one inning during a 6-3 loss to the Rangers in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader. Gose has allowed runs in four of his 14 appearances this season, though he's yet to go through an extended strong stretch. The southpaw has a 4.73 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB across 13.1 innings while adding a 1-0 record and a blown save. After initially seeming like a potential high-leverage option, Gose has picked up most of his appearances in middle relief.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Clean inning in loss

Gose pitched a perfect inning in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Astros. Gose hadn't pitched since May 13, as he's seen a reduction in usage after a rough start to the month. Tuesday's appearance was a step in the right direction and also his second straight scoreless outing. The southpaw has a 4.76 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 14:6 K:BB and a 1-0 record in 11.1 innings across 12 appearances. So far, he's yet to see consistent high-leverage work.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Surrenders homer Monday

Gose allowed three runs (two earned) on a hit and a walk with one strikeout in one inning during Monday's 12-9 extra-innings win over the White Sox. Gose made a mess of the eighth inning, which was punctuated by an AJ Pollock three-run home run. The Guardians then rallied to tie the game with six runs in the ninth. Gose has kept runs off the board in seven of his 10 appearances, but he's given up six runs (five earned) in 3.1 innings in May. The southpaw owns a 5.79 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB in 9.1 innings overall.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Earns win in nightcap

Gose (1-0) earned the win in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the White Sox. He struck out four in 1.2 perfect innings. Gose's longest of five outings this season was also his sharpest. He threw 17 of 24 pitches for the strikes in relief of starter Triston McKenzie. Gose has allowed just one run run with three hits and a walk while striking out eight through five innings this season. The southpaw should continue to pitch in close contests if he keeps having success as he has early in the campaign.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Can't maintain lead

Gose allowed a run on a hit and struck out one in two-thirds of an innings in Tuesday's 10-5 win over the Reds. He was charged with a blown save. Gose entered the game in the sixth inning in relief of starter Shane Bieber, who exited after allowing an RBI double to Jonathan India. Gose then promptly gave up a two-run, game-tying home run to Tyler Naquin. While it'll count as a blown save, Gose has yet to receive a traditional save opportunity. He'll continue to be part of a late-inning mix leading up to closer Emmanuel Clase, who has been shaky to begin the season.

  • Guardians' Anthony Gose: Part of late-inning mix

Gose is expected to compete for the setup role while James Karinchak (shoulder) is out, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Gose earned a cup of coffee with Cleveland at the end of last season and performed well. He allowed one run, two hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in 6.2 innings with a fastball that averaged 99.4 mph. It's an extremely small sample size, as is his one run allowed in four innings in spring training this year. Nonetheless, the former outfielder is set for a significant role, and he could help in fantasy formats that count holds if he can put up good ratios.

  • Indians' Anthony Gose: Solid showing as pitcher

Gose allowed one run on two hits and two walks over 6.2 innings since he was called up from Triple-A Columbus. The outfielder-turned-reliever ascended to the majors Sept. 20, and he was pretty solid in a low-leverage role. Gose added nine strikeouts across his six appearances. The southpaw could be a candidate for the big-league bullpen in 2022, but Emmanuel Clase should be favored for saves heading into next season after ending 2021 as Cleveland's unquestioned closer.

  • Indians' Anthony Gose: Coming back to majors as pitcher

Cleveland will select Gose's contract from Triple-A Columbus ahead of Monday's doubleheader with the Royals, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. A once-promising outfield prospect while coming up through the Blue Jays' system, Gose slashed .240/.309/.348 across 1,252 plate appearances with Toronto and Detroit from the 2012 through 2016 seasons before converting to pitching. The transition initially proved rough, but Gose began generating better results in 2019 and was awarded an assignment to Triple-A coming out of spring training. The 31-year-old lefty has been especially effective since rejoining Columbus in mid-August following a stint at the Tokyo Olympics with Team USA; over his final 12 appearances with the affiliate, Gose gave up one run while striking out 22 over 14 innings. Blessed with a fastball that occasionally touches the triple digits, Gose will get a chance to make a case for a spot in Cleveland's 2022 bullpen during the final two weeks of the current season.

  • Indians' Anthony Gose: Involved in car accident

Gose was involved in a car accident Friday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports. Gose checked out fine following the accident, but he'll be limited for several days to make sure that he's ok to play. While he'll be a non-roster invitee at spring training, Gose will likely serve as organizational depth to begin the regular season.

  • Indians' Anthony Gose: Returns to Cleveland

Gose re-signed with Cleveland as a non-roster invitee Tuesday. The 30-year-old former outfielder began his conversion to pitching back in 2017 but has yet to advance above Double-A. In 65.2 total minor-league innings, he owns a 4.39 ERA and 1.61 WHIP, with his 19.9 percent walk rate coming in far too high for him to be an effective weapon. Cleveland evidently still believes there's something there, however, as he's set to spend his third straight year with the organization.

  • Indians' Anthony Gose: Moved to satellite camp

Gose was moved to Cleveland's satellite camp Wednesday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. While the Indians reportedly love Gose's arm, the team also feels the outfielder-turned-reliever could benefit from some additional reps. Gose, who touched 100 mph in spring and struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings before the shutdown, could eventually be a dangerous option for Cleveland's bullpen down the line.
