Red Sox's Chris Sale: Returns to win column with nine-strikeout effort
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sale (12-4) fired six innings of scoreless baseball Friday against the Angels, allowing just four hits, walking two and striking out nine en route to the win.

Although it took 112 pitches to get through six frames, 72 of the southpaw's offerings went for strikes. The fact that the Red Sox offense provided five runs in the top of the first certainly helped his cause, but Sale also held his end of the bargain by not letting any Angels get into scoring position until the fifth inning. Sale continues to thrive in his new environment, as his ERA and K/9 improved further to 2.48 and 12.7, respectively. He'll look to continue his winning ways Wednesday in Seattle.

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Plagued by little run support Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sale (11-4) allowed just three hits and two walks while tying a season high with 13 strikeouts through 7.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Saturday.

Sale was nothing short of dominant yet again, throwing a season-high 118 pitches, 85 of which were strikes. The southpaw has not received adequate run support recently; during his last four starts, the Red Sox have scored just 13 runs, with one apiece during his last two trips to the mound. During this particular outing, he handed the ball off to Craig Kimbrel, who wasn't able to close the door with a 1-0 lead. He now holds a 2.75 ERA with a WHIP of 0.90 and a remarkable 12.5 K/9. Sale's next start projects to be Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Tabbed to start All-Star Game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sale was named the American League's starting pitcher for Tuesday night's All-Star Game, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

This marks the second consecutive year that the ace left-hander will get the starting nod. Sale has been one of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball this season, producing a 2.75 ERA and a 178:22 K:BB while holding opposing hitters to a .200 batting average. He will oppose National League starter Max Scherzer for the first few innings of the Midsummer Classic.

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Strikes out 12 in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sale (11-4) allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out 12 batters through seven innings during Thursday's loss to Tampa Bay.

Sale really could have used more run support Thursday, as the Red Sox only scored once. It's obviously a solid fantasy return whenever a hurler adds 12 punchouts to their total, and it's also difficult to complain about Sale's elite first half: 11 wins, 2.75 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 12.6 K/9. This was also just the third time through 18 starts that the lefty has allowed more than three runs. Sale is a candidate to start the All-Star game, so when he'll toe the rubber for Boston next is unknown.

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Turns in dominant performance for 11th win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sale picked up his 11th win of the season Saturday in Toronto, turning in 7.0 scoreless innings with four hits, one walk and 11 strikeouts.

The Boston ace continued his dominant first half with another gem Saturday. According to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe, Sale has consistently carved up the Blue Jays over the course of his career with a 1.68 ERA against them and a 1.13 ERA at the Rogers Centre. He's now second in the American League behind Jason Vargas for wins with 11 and his 12.43 K/9 is the best in baseball among starters. He's lined up for one more outing before the All-Star break with a start against the Rays on tap for Thursday.
