Evan Gattis: Confirms retirement
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis said Tuesday he's "done playing" professionally on the '755 is Real' podcast with David O'Brien of The Athletic and Eric O'Flaherty.

The 33-year-old indicated in October he wasn't pursuing a return to MLB, so it's hardly a surprise to see he's hung up his cleats. Gattis had a .248/.300/.476 slash line with 139 home runs and 410 RBI across six major-league seasons between Atlanta and Houston.

Evan Gattis: Career likely done
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis indicated Tuesday that he hasn't officially retired from professional baseball, but he admitted he's not actively pursuing a return to the game, Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston reports. "I don't even know if I could play, but right now I don't want to," Gattis said.

After failing to receive a qualifying offer from the Astros following the 2018 season, Gattis didn't end up signing with another team, even though minor-league contract offers were most likely presented to him. The 33-year-old could always change his mind and stage a comeback, but there probably won't be much of a market for a player with no defensive value who spent a full year away from the game. Gattis spent six seasons in the majors, slashing .248/.300/.476 with 139 home runs between stops in Atlanta and Houston.

Evan Gattis: Fails to receive qualifying offer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis did not receive a $17.9 million qualifying offer from Houston on Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gattis slashed .226/.284/.452 with 25 home runs and 78 RBI in 128 games for the Astros this past season during his fourth year with the organization. He will now hit the free-agent market after making $6.7 million in 2018. Gattis only made a couple appearances behind the plate this season, so it's likely that he will try to find a home in the American League as a designated hitter.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Reaches base four times
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Angels.

After going hitless in 16 at-bats, Gattis has erupted for five hits over seven at-bats in games Saturday and Sunday. Prior to his two-game uprising, Gattis had appeared in just 11 of 28 games, as a slump coincided with the hot bat of Tyler White, who took over as the primary designated hitter. Injuries to Carlos Correa (back) and George Springer (thumb, leg) may lead to some at-bats for Gattis over the final week, but he remains in a bench role.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Crushes homer No. 25
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two strikeouts in Wednesday's win over the Twins.

Gattis provided a two-run homer in the fourth inning off starter Jake Odorizzi. The 32-year-old is hitting just .231 and has seen his playing time take a significant hit, but he's now gone deep 25 times and he has 73 RBI, so Gattis can still be dangerous when he does get the starting nod.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Remains on bench Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gattis will hit the bench for the fourth straight game as he is 4-for-38 in his last 14 games. Tyler White garners another start at designated hitter, as Gattis' hold on the starting job appears to be waning.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Rides pine Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gattis will remain on the bench for the third straight game, as Tyler White is set to serve as the designated hitter. Over his last 10 games, Gattis has struggled to a .118/.139/.382 slash line.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Remains on bench Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is out of the lineup versus Seattle on Wednesday.

Gattis will take a seat for the second straight game as Tyler White gets the nod at the DH spot. Through 110 games this year, Gattis is hitting .232 with a .772 OPS and 71 RBI.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Out of Tuesday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gattis started the last eight games, going 4-for-28 in 30 plate appearances, although three of those hits were home runs. The 32-year-old is slashing .202/.260/.474 since the start of July.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Smacks 24th home run
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Athletics.

Gattis took Sean Manaea deep in the fourth inning for his 24th home run of the season. He ended a three-week homer drought on Wednesday and now has three long balls in his past four games. Even given that slump, he is leading catcher-eligible players in home runs this season, making him a key asset for the stretch run in any fantasy format.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Leads homer barrage against Rockies
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's 12-1 rout of the Rockies.

The Astros went yard five times in total off Colorado pitching, with Gattis' pair being his first home runs in August. The slugger now has a .240/.297/.491 slash line on the year with 23 homers and 70 RBI in 105 games.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Sits again Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners.

Gattis will head to the bench for the sixth time in seven games, although that was mostly due to a National League road trip that prevented the usage of a designated hitter. Tyler White will serve as DH, batting seventh, against Mike Leake and the Mariners.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Remains on bench Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Giants.

Gattis will stick on the bench for a fifth straight game with the Astros once again playing in a National League ballpark with no designated hitter available. Look for the slugger to rejoin the lineup when the Astros return home to face the Mariners on Thursday.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Sitting out with no DH available
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

With no designated hitter available at Dodger Stadium, Gattis will be relegated to bench role for the third straight day. Gattis made a pinch-hitting appearance in Saturday's 14-0 win, plating a run on a sacrifice fly.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Sits again in NL park
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is out of the lineup Saturday against the Dodgers.

Gattis has only started once in the field this season. With the weekend series being playing at Dodger Stadium under National League rules, expect Gattis to be limited to pinch-hit duty for all three games.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Out of Friday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is not in the lineup against the Dodgers on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Gattis will take a seat on the bench as the Astros won't have the services of a designated hitter during their three-game set in Los Angeles. Since Gattis has only logged one start all year outside of the DH spot -- he saw action behind the plate against the White Sox in April -- don't expect to see him utilized other than in a pinch-hitting role this weekend.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Cranks 21st homer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Gattis helped break a 1-1 tie with his two-run shot in the sixth inning, and Houston wouldn't relinquish the lead the rest of the way. The 31-year-old's bat cooled off a bit earlier in the month, but he's now 7-for-19 (.368) with a pair of home runs over his last five games and remains on track for the second 30-homer campaign of his career.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Blasts 20th homer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis went 3-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 11-2 loss to the Rangers.

It was his first multi-hit performance since July 7, and Gattis' .214 batting average on the month is reminiscent of his early season struggles. He does have five homers and 10 RBI in 16 games, however, and Friday's blast was his 20th of the year -- the fifth time in six seasons he's hit that mark.

Astros' Evan Gattis: On bench again Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is not in Wednesday's lineup against Colorado, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet reports.

With the Astros playing in a National League park, Gattis will remain on the bench sans the use of a designated hitter. Look for him to return to the starting lineup Friday against Texas.

Astros' Evan Gattis: Sitting in Coors Field
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gattis is out of Tuesday's lineup in Colorado, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Without the designated hitter available for this series, Gattis figures to only start if he catches, and Max Stassi is setting up behind the dish in this one. The Astros have one more game Wednesday in Colorado before an off day and then a weekend series at home against the Rangers.
