Jefry Marte: Heads to Japan
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte signed a contract with the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan on Thursday, The Japan Times reports.

Marte was designated for assignment by the Angels in November and elected free agency after spending the last two years in Los Angeles. The 27-year-old slashed .216/.273/.371 with seven home runs in 209 plate appearances in 2018, and will now test his luck overseas.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Booted from 40-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte was outrighted from the Angels' 40-man roster Friday.

In order to free up some room for their younger prospects, the Angels elected to cast Marte, Eduardo Paredes, Odrisamer Despaigne, Deck McGuire and Francisco Arcia from the 40-man roster. In 90 games for the big-league club in 2018, Marte slashed .216/.273/.371 with seven home runs and 22 RBI.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Homers off righty
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run and a pair of runs scored in Monday's extra-innings win over Texas.

Marte got a rare start against a right-handed starter and went yard for the sixth time this season. The 27-year-old started at first base with Jose Miguel Fernandez sliding over to cover second, a situation that could continue if Andrelton Simmons (knee) is forced to miss additional time. Marte is slashing .214/.265/.353 over 200 plate appearances this year.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Homers off bench
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte homered in his lone at-bat in Tuesday's loss to Arizona.

The emergence of Taylor Ward at third base and the healthy combination of Albert Pujols and Shohei Ohtani as the Angels' primary first base and designated hitter options have limited Marte to a bench role in August. The 27-year-old hasn't helped his case for playing time, slashing just .214/.257/.371 over 148 plate appearances this season.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Playing time declines
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte will start at first base and bat eighth Sunday against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Marte has seen his opportunities tail off since Albert Pujols returned from the 10-day disabled list July 23, as he'll pick up just his second start in seven games. He'll be entering the lineup Sunday with Shohei Ohtani taking a seat with a lefty (Marco Gonzales) twirling for the Mariners.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Hits fourth home run
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run Sunday against the Dodgers.

Marte was the entirety of the Angels' offense Sunday, launching a three-run home run off Clayton Kershaw in the fourth inning. It was his fourth home run of the season and first since June 4. His two hits were his first since he came off the disabled list July 5, though he has managed to post a .473 slugging percentage in 55 at-bats against southpaws this season.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Records just one at-bat in start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte started at first base Thursday, scoring a run after getting hit by a pitch in his lone at-bat in a win over Seattle.

The 27-year-old received his second consecutive start against a southpaw, but he was subbed out for Luis Valbuena after Mariners starter James Paxton (back) exited the contest in the first inning. Marte has been exclusively deployed against left-handed starters on days where Shohei Ohtani sits since returning from the disabled list July 5. Marte is slashing .242/.296/.408 in 91 plate appearances this season, and he won't move the fantasy needle in his limited role.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Reinstated from DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte (wrist) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Thursday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.

Marte has returned to health after landing on the disabled list June 12 with a left wrist sprain. Through 39 games this season, he's batting .262 with three homers and 10 RBI.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Starts rehab assignment Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Inland Empire on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Marte has been sidelined with a left wrist sprain since suffering the injury against the Mariners on June 11. He will likely require a couple games down in the minors before returning to Los Angeles. Over 39 contests with the Angels this year, he's hit .262/.311/.440 with three home runs and 10 RBI.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Hits DL with wrist injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a left wrist sprain.

Marte was forced to exit Monday's game against the Mariners with what was originally diagnosed as a left wrist contusion. The team is now classifying his injury as a more severe left wrist sprain, prompting his placement on the disabled list. Infielder David Fletcher had his contract selected from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Suffers wrist contusion
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte left Tuesday's game against Seattle with a bruised left wrist, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.

This is positive news for the Angels, as Marte appears to have avoided a significant injury. He'll be listed as day-to-day moving forward.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Exits with injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte was removed from Tuesday's matchup against the Mariners after suffering a hand injury, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.

The injury occurred when Dee Gordon ran into Marte's glove on a play at first base. The extent of the injury is unknown, although he'll likely be reevaluated after the game. Jose Miguel Fernandez took over for the injured Marte at first base.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Receives rare start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte started at first base and went 0-for-2 before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in Monday's loss to Detroit.

Marte was penciled into the lineup with Shohei Ohtani (rest) getting the day off and with a southpaw on the mound. This appears to be the recipe for getting the backup platoon infielder into the lineup, which severely limits his fantasy utility despite a respectable .277/.338/.462 slash line in 71 plate appearances.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Hits second home run
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run Saturday against the Mariners.

Marte gave the Angels what appeared to be a commanding lead with his home run in the sixth inning, his second of the season. He has seen inconsistent at-bats this season, mostly coming when there are injuries to regular starters or when Shohei Ohtani is out of the lineup, but has produced well when given the opportunity. Marte holds a .333/.382/.569 slash in 51 at-bats this season.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Homers Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte went 1-for-2 with a solo homer Saturday against the Giants.

Shohei Ohtani was out of the lineup with left-handed pitcher Derek Holland on the mound, so Marte got the chance to start his ninth game of the season, taking advantage by hitting his first home run of the season in the second inning. Marte's numbers on a per-game basis are strong in limited at-bats this year, but he's shown little offensive punch in previous opportunities and does not have a clear path to more consistent at-bats.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Records three hits
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI Tuesday against the Rangers.

As has been the case, when Shohei Ohtani sits Marte draws the start at first base with Albert Pujols shifting to DH. He's taken advantage of those spot starts this season, posting three multi-hit games as well as three extra-base hits. Despite the hot start, he's shown next to no offensive prowess in past seasons and his sporadic playing time ensures that he has little fantasy value.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Will start Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte will start at first base and bat eighth for Saturday's game against the Athletics, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Albert Pujols moves to designated hitter with Shohei Ohtani returning to the bench to prepare as Sunday's starting pitcher, opening up first base for Marte. The 26-year-old will look to continue his hot start to the season -- 6-for-14 with three doubles -- against Oakland and starting pitcher Andrew Triggs on Saturday.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Draws second straight start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte will make his second straight start at first base Sunday against the Athletics and bat eighth, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Room in the lineup opened up for Marte after Ian Kinsler (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Saturday. It's not expected that Kinsler will need more than the minimum 10 days to recover from the injury, but the influx of at-bats Marte is projected to receive in the interim could make the latter decent lineup filler in AL-only formats during the upcoming week.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Set to make 25-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte has made the Angels' 25-man roster for Opening Day, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Marte didn't show much at Triple-A (.797 OPS) or the majors (.576 OPS) last season to get excited about his upside if he finds playing time. He'll be used in a reserve role off the bench at first base, third base and in the outfield.

Angels' Jefry Marte: Available off bench Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marte is listed as an available extra Wednesday for the Angels' Cactus League game against the Indians.

It remains to be seen if manager Mike Scioscia will actually use Marte, but the fact that the first baseman is deemed available indicates that he didn't experience any setbacks with his tight right groin after taking part in Tuesday's intrasquad scrimmage. According to Maria Guardado of MLB.com, Marte is competing with Colin Walsh, Kaleb Cowart, Nolan Fontana and Jose Miguel Fernandez for the lone bench spot in the infield that's still up for grabs.
