Michael Mariot: Cut loose by Royals
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot was released by the Royals on Wednesday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

The 29-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since 2016 and owns an unsightly 5.98 ERA across 49.2 career big-league frames. Mariot posted a 3.81 ERA across 28.1 innings with Triple-A Omaha before being cut loose.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Friday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Mariot will be assigned to Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The righty was released by the Padres last week after allowing 18 runs over 13.1 innings of work this season. He has 49.2 innings of big-league experience during his career. He'll serve as organizational depth with Kansas City.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Reassigned to minor-league camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot was reassigned to the Phillies' minor-league camp Monday, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.

After being dumped from the Phillies' 40-man roster in December, Mariot faced an uphill battle to winning an Opening Day roster spot. The 28-year-old will likely report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, with whom he posted a 2.23 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 32.1 innings of relief last season.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Clears waivers, sent outright to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot cleared waivers Tuesday and was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Despite logging a couple of saves for Philadelphia this past season, Mariot was recently bumped from the Phillies' 40-man roster after they signed Joaquin Benoit. However, Mariot will stick with Philadelphia and move forward as an organizational depth piece.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Tuesday.

With Joaquin Benoit coming aboard on a one-year deal, Mariot lost his spot on the 40-man roster, and he will now be subjected to waivers. The 28-year-old's 2016 numbers were marred by one six-run blowup on Aug. 27 (0.2 innings). He pitched fairly well down the stretch and even recorded a couple saves over the final few weeks. While Mariot doesn't have truly dominant stuff, he may appeal to other teams -- especially in this market for relief pitching.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Earns second save Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot picked up his second save of the season Saturday despite allowing a solo homer in his inning of work.

Manager Pete Mackanin used Hector Neris in the eighth inning in a non-save situation, but Neris gave up a run, creating a save opportunity for Mariot in the ninth. He was a bit shaky, allowing the homer and two walks, but he managed to get out of the inning. Jeanmar Gomez's recent struggles prompted Mackanin to open up the ninth-inning job to others. Mariot, who also shut the door Tuesday, could sneak in at least one more save opp as the season winds down.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Candidate for save chances
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Manager Pete Mackanin said Mariot, Hector Neris, Joely Rodriguez and Edubray Ramos are in the mix for save chances with Jeanmar Gomez temporarily out of the closer's role, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Mackanin said he wants to give Gomez a break for the next couple of save chances. Mariot may be no better than third in the pecking order for save chances, but could be asked to close if Neris and Ramos are unavailable when a save chance comes up.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Picks up first save by retiring one White Sox batter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot got his first save of the season by retiring the only batter he faced Tuesday against the White Sox.

Mariot was called upon to retire shortstop Tim Anderson after closer Jeanmar Gomez allowed Chicago to reduce Philadelphia's 7-3 lead to just one run. The 27-year-old right-hander could be in the mix for saves down the stretch if Gomez's poor performance costs him his job.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Earns second hold Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot picked up his second hold of the season Friday with a scoreless inning in a 4-3 win over the Marlins. He struck out two and did not allow a hit.

Mariot has a 5.51 ERA, but most of that can be attributed to one August appearance in which he allowed six runs in two-thirds of an inning. He's shown an ability to get strikeouts in the majors, but he has also walked too many batters thus far. He needs to make improvements there to be a serviceable bullpen arm.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Earns first win Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot picked up his first win of the season with a scoreless inning of relief in a 5-4 victory over the Dodgers on Thursday.

Mariot needed just 10 pitches to retire the three batters he faced. He has made six appearances since his recall from Triple-A, and has a 2.23 ERA and an 8:1 K:BB in 6.2 innings.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Recalled by Phillies Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot was recalled by the Phillies on Wednesday, Stephen Gross of the Morning Call reports.

The 27-year-old Mariot has pitched really well over his last 10 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a 0.87 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 10.1 innings. Mariot has yet to pitch in the big leagues in 2016. He last pitched in the majors with the Royals in 2015, when he only logged a total of three innings.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Activated from DL, optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot (ankle) was activated from the disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Stephen Gross of the Morning Call reports.

Mariot had been out all season with the ankle injury, but it seems that he got through his rehab assignment without issue and will now hop back onto the mound full-time. That being said, the Phillies decided he wasn't ready for the major leagues quite yet, so the right-hander will head back to the minors to get a bit more seasoning against upper-level hitters.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Moves up to Lehigh Valley
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot (ankle) had his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Meghan Montemurro of the News Journal reports.

Mariot has allowed nine runs in 8.1 innings during his rehab assignment, and he'll likely stay at Triple-A Lehigh Valley when he's activated from the disabled list. He could be an option for the big-league bullpen later in the year.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Rehab assignment transfers to Double-A Reading
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot (ankle) has had his rehab assignment transferred to Double-A Reading, Meghan Montemurro of the News Journal reports.

Mariot was shelled for six earned runs in his first appearance for High-A Clearwater, but eventually settled down, giving up just one earned run in three innings over his last two appearances. The right-hander began the season on the disabled list after suffering an ankle injury in spring training. It's unclear how long his rehab assignment with Double-A Reading will be before the Phillies feel good about activating Mariot, but he'll likely be sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley once activated.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: To begin rehab assignment Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot (ankle) is set to begin his rehab assignment Friday at High-A Clearwater, Meghan Montemurro of The News Journal reports.

Mariot began the season on the disabled list after suffering a sprained ankle early on in spring training. He'll get back on the mound and face live batters Friday at High-A, but it's unclear how many rehab appearances the Phillies want him to make before they're comfortable with activating him from the disabled list. Once activated, Mariot will likely be optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Phillies placed Mariot (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, Ryan Lawrence of the Philly Voice reports.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot remains sidelined after rolling his right ankle earlier this spring, the Phillies' official site reports.

The Phillies were hoping to have Mariot back in action last week, but his ankle injury continues to bother him. The injury has cost him a chance at a bullpen spot. He figures to open the year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot has yet to pitch this spring due to a right ankle injury, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Phillies' Michael Mariot: Claimed by Phillies
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Monday.

Mariot was designated for assignment by the Royals earlier in the month in order to clear room on the 40-man roster after spending the majority of the season with Triple-A Omaha. The righty has pitched just 28 innings in the big leagues in his career, but posted a 2.32 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 62 innings with Triple-A last season and could get a chance to work out of the Phillies' bullpen in 2016.

Royals' Michael Mariot: Designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mariot was designated for assignment on Friday.

The Royals needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, so Mariot was a casualty. The righty reliever will offer organizational bullpen depth going forward.
