  • Colton Murray: Released by Rays

Murray was released by the Rays on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Murray joined the Rays on a minor-league deal in December but failed to make the team. The 27-year-old has a 6.18 ERA in 39.1 major-league innings but hasn't appeared at the big-league level since 2016. He'll likely sign a minor-league deal elsewhere as organizational depth.

  • Rays' Colton Murray: Signs deal with Tampa Bay

Murray agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Rays on Thursday, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports. Murray tossed 40.2 innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley within the Phillies' system in 2017, posting a 5.53 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with a 45:15 K:BB. The right-hander didn't see any time on a major-league mound last year, but appeared in 24 games out of the bullpen for Philadelphia in 2016, although he wasn't able to secure any sort of role and tallied just a 6.25 ERA during those outings. Looking ahead, Murray will provide organizational depth for Tampa Bay and could wind up starting the 2018 campaign in Triple-A Durham.

Murray left Tuesday's spring training game with what appeared to be a lower-back injury, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports. • Phillies' Colton Murray: Recalled from Triple-A

Murray was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday. He was subpar in 23 innings with the big club earlier this season, posting a 4.30 ERA and 18:9 K:BB in 23 innings. However, he will get the September call-up to eat some low-leverage innings out of the bullpen down the stretch.

  • Phillies' Colton Murray: Optioned to Triple-A

Murray was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley following Thursday's game, Ryan Lawrence of The Philly Voice reports. The Phillies' bullpen has been overworked over the past few days due to a number of blowout losses, so the organization optioned Murray back to Triple-A with the intention of recalling a fresh arm. Murray pitched for the third consecutive night Thursday, working two scoreless innings after starter Aaron Nola was tagged for six earned runs in just 3.0 innings. The Phillies will recall a bullpen arm Friday to take Murray's spot on the active roster.

  • Phillies' Colton Murray: Improves in second MLB stint

Murray has a 1.38 ERA and 1.00 WHIP after throwing 13 innings since being recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on April 30. After an underwhelming start to 2016 at Lehigh Valley where his ERA reached 6.10, Murray's solid performance for the Phillies has been a pleasant surprise. He's pitched in 10 games, allowing runs in just one, and has thrown up to three innings at a time. Whether or not he can sustain such a low ERA and WHIP has yet to be seen, but would be welcomed by a subpar Phillies' bullpen that has a collective ERA of 3.71.

  • Phillies' Colton Murray: Optioned to Triple-A

The Phillies optioned Murray to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. Murray gave up just one earned run over 5.1 innings with the big club this spring, but he did not do enough to break camp with the big club. He figures to be an option for the big league club at some point this season after posting a 2.67 ERA and striking out 77 batters in 77.2 minor league innings in 2015.
